It should be surprising but alas, it is common. It is happening on both sides of the isle and we really should have a better handle on campaigns. We are minting millionaires on the backs of Americans every election cycle.
How does Senator Bernie Sanders go from having less than $500,000 in assets to 3 homes, 2 on Lake Champlain in Vermont [extremely expensive], flies private jets for campaigning and he isn’t even running for anything currently. He was being investigated along with his wife, but it has quietly disappeared from the news.
Senator Mitch McConnell, who is married to Elaine Chao whose family is in shipping and has tons of business dealings with the Chinese and good old Mitch has accompanied his wife there on occasions. How does someone get to hold on for all this time? Lots of money!
What we need is term limits across the board. No one should hold office for life as some judges do. And our lawmakers should be able to spend decades campaigning and staying in office. We soon find out after awhile where their true allegiance lies once in office a certain amount time!
